Five went in. Four came out.
No one knows what happened that morning at River Point. Five boys went hunting. Four came back. The boys won’t say who fired the shot that killed their friend; the evidence shows it could have been any one of them.
Kate Marino’s senior year internship at the district attorney’s office isn’t exactly glamorous—more like an excuse to leave school early that looks good on college applications. Then the DA hands her boss, Mr. Stone, the biggest case her small town of Belle Terre has ever seen. The River Point Boys are all anyone can talk about. Despite their damning toxicology reports the morning of the accident, the DA wants the boys’ case swept under the rug. He owes his political office to their powerful families.
Kate won’t let that happen. Digging up secrets without revealing her own is a dangerous line to walk; Kate has her own reasons for seeking justice for Grant. As she investigates with Stone, the aging prosecutor relying on Kate to see and hear what he cannot, she realizes that nothing about the case—or the boys—is what it seems. Grant wasn’t who she thought he was, and neither is Stone’s prime suspect. As Kate gets dangerously close to the truth, it becomes clear that the early morning accident might not have been an accident at all—and if Kate doesn’t uncover the true killer, more than one life could be on the line…including her own.

Here is what I thought

Five boys went out into the woods to party and shoot their guns but only 4 comes out alive. What happened to Grant? Who shot him? None of the other four boys will tell what happened and the DA wants things to just be swept under the rug so to speak so he appoints an aging attorney to the case figuring he would make quick work of it and do as he wanted.

Kate is doing a senior internship at the DA’s office and Mr. Stone is her boss, she talks him into trying to find out the truth about what happened and in doing so puts some sights on her back. As she tries to find out what exactly happened at the party that night and how it connects to a video going around about a couple of girls. She quickly finds out that someone really doesn’t like her prying into things. She also learns that Grant wasn’t who she thought he was and a few other things. It’s crazy how a group of rich kids can ban together and keep their mouths shut on something when it comes to someone being shot.

I really enjoyed this one and it was a pretty fast paced listen. I liked Kate she was pretty brave and had a lot of spunk. The mystery surrounding what happened was really good and I figured it out about the same time that Kate did, but the motive was not something I seen coming but it made for a really good ending.

If you like YA mysteries then I think you might enjoy this one.

The Narrator

This was my first time listening to Amy Melissa Bentley and I thought she did a good job. I have listened to Eric Michael Summerer and he is one of my favorite male narrators so he did a great job. 🙂
